For all of you planning on attending the third week, of the Rocky Mountain Classic, please be advised that we will be altering the tournament to be one of four days and not five. For this reason, management has reduced the nomination fee for the Grand Prix ring from $175 to $100 to make up for the lost day of showing.

***CET MEDAL ALERT*** There will be a CET Medal hosted at this tournament on the final day of competition. It will be the FINAL Qualifier for the Prairie Region, and will count towards qualifying for the CET Regional Finals to be hosted here by RMSJ and the ASJA in two weeks.

The tournament will feature the Derby's...with Jumper Derby day being Saturday, and the first ever RMSJ Hunter Derby scheduled for the Sunday. Introduced last year was the Equitation Extravaganza which gave all riders the vying for a top four finish in the CET regional finals a chance to have a complete weekend of practice before the actual finals. The Extravaganza will be hosted again this year as a prep......Peter Holmes is the course designer for the third week, as well as the ASJA finals with the CET regional’s two weeks later....he will be setting gymnastics and courses very similar to the finals as to help the riders prepare themselves and their horses.

The Up and Coming Stars of our Sport:

Rocky Mountain Show Jumping's philosophy has been, and will always be geared towards developing the younger horses and riders, with efforts to improving the sport here in Alberta. From time to time we feel it necessary to showcase some of the success stories shared by our younger riders at our tournaments.

Last week, Bretton Chad, hot of an 8th place finish overall in the NAYRC held in July at the Kentucky Horse Park, competed in her first major Grand Prix at the tender age of 15 years old. In front of a large crowd of onlookers in the VIP Tent on Saturday for the $50,000 friends of RMSJ Grand Prix, Bretton and her mount Oxford was one of 8 to jump a clear first round. The duo did have eight faults in the Jump Off, but should be very excited about their first Grand Prix. WAY TO GO BRETTON!

See Bretton Chad & Oxford's place fifth in her first major Grand Prix

Week two of the Rocky Mountain Classic played host to the FEI Children's Qualifier where riders between the ages of 12 to 14 jump the same course around the world to try and qualify for the finals that will be held in Singapore later this year. Young Jordan Wilson of Calgary is another one of the success stories that we felt it necessary to share with our readers. These young riders are asked to jump four rounds over two competition days to determine the ultimate winner of that region. Jordan was able to jump the entire competition fault free, and along with her mother and trainer Pam Yerxa, we would like to celebrate her success. WAY TO GO JORDAN!

RMSJ Fall Finale featuring the ASJA Three Star Finals & CET Regional qualifiers:

RMSJ is very pleased to be hosting the Alberta Show Jumping Association Three Star Finals and CET regional qualifiers at the Fall Finale to be held at Anderson Ranch on September 17 - 20, the week following the Spruce Meadows Masters.

The Alberta Show Jumping Association has gone through numerous changes in the past few years, all in the efforts to make the sport here in Alberta better for the competitors. With the changes is the enhancement of the ASJA finals. In past years, the ASJA finals has always been geared to predominantly the medal and equitation divisions with the focus being the CET regional finals where three riders qualify to travel to the Royal Winter Fair in November. Typically, the riders who compete in the regionals are the more experienced in our sport. This year, the ASJA decided to produce an event that would also reward the more up and comers of the sport. The ASJA Finals will feature the Three Star Finals, where riders who have been accumulating points all year at the Three Star Tournaments will be able to accumulate double the points in their competitions in their quest to be crowned either champion or reserve champion for the year in their respective divisions. The ASJA felt it was necessary to reward more members of the association and felt that adding this component to the finals, it would make it a little bit more "special" to all.

RMSJ will host a reception in the VIP tent during one of the evenings of the event to pay tribute to all members of the ASJA....look for more details upon arrival.
