RMSJ Winter Training Series: Mother Nature has been cooperating thusfar in 2010, and this past weekend we were treated to another beautiful weekend and a great turnout for the second of this year's three Winter Training Series. We're not quite sure why, but this past weekend had a very competitive feel to it.... perhaps it was the fact that it tied into the beginning of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, but there was sure a competitive spirit in the air.
Spectators were pleased to have the Olympics on the big screen to keep tabs on our Canadian Athletes while cheering on Alberta’s developing riders, some of which we hope to see one day representing Canada at an Olympig Games themselves . The next jumper tournament to be hosted will be the final event of the Winter Training series (Jumper variety). Competitors in each division will be vying for the title of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping Winter Training Series 2010 Champion or Reserve Champion. And for all of you Hunter Riders, don’t forget that the next Winter Training Series (Hunter variety) is quickly approaching, scheduled for the end of the month...so don't forget that the closing date for entries is this coming Monday! See you all then! BONUS Do your entries online, and on time, and earn $10 in Rocky Mountain Horseshoes! To see the prize list and entry forms, click here. Two Special RMSJ Thank You's: As most of our readers know, the content of all of our newsletters tends to be geared solely to the tournaments and prograsms that we host here at Anderson Ranch, news from around the equestrian world, and the showcasing of the young and coming riders of our sport here in Alberta. Very rarely, do the newsletters become personal.....this one will be an exeption!
RMSJ Competitors & Followers:
I wanted to take this opprtunity to thank all of our followers for their supportive emails that have been sent our way. I made the decision to travel this winter, and henceforth, have missed all three of the Winter Training Series held thusfar. As most of you who attend our events know, mingling in the crowd and talking with all of the young up and comers of our great sport gives our team here at RMSJ great pleasure. I have missed this interaction with all of our exhibitors this year, because of my decision to travel south to further develop the horse that has given me the chance again to participate at an international level. Terrific has been great thusfar in his competitions in California, and I have been surprised at just how many fans he has, and want to thank all of you who have sent your notes of encouragement and congratulations.
A few of you asked for some rounds to be posted, so we had a few done up. Thanks again!....John (these are his two wins, a second and a fourth place finsh) First, First (2), Second, Fourth
Shelly Campf:
This past week during the Desert Circuit III tournament, another Hunter Derby was held under the lights on Friday night. Now many RMSJ followers know that for fun, I have participated in a few of these derbies, and have even began hosting some of them during our tournaments....call it an obsession.....or whatever you want, but I am hooked...they are so much fun to ride.
Wanting to perform better in the events, I asked an old friend who I grew up with and who used to compete with years ago to lend me a hand, knowing that she and her husband Jeff have numerous students who are very good in the hunter ring.
Well let me tell you...the saying is true that you can learn something from everyone is true, no matter who you are. I was completely baffled on just how much I didn't know about how to ride these events properly.
Anyway, It is easy to see why Shelly has such a great business and why there are so many young riders that wish to train with her. She was amazing, and although I missed the second round by one point on my first horse, and did a human impression of a lawn dart on another, I had a great time and enjoyed having some fun with a great friend and an excellent coach. Thanks Shelly!.....John
Check out their great new website!
First horse....Yay!
