For Immediate Release Contact: RMSJ
Calgary, Alberta - The Management of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping is pleased at this time to put out a special challenge to all of the potential Jr/Am Alberta residents under the age of 21 and eligible to compete in CET Medal competition. Over the past many years, RMSJ has noticed a yearly occurrence, as we approach the later stages of the year leading up to the regional medal finals in Alberta, where competitors compete to earn one of only four spots to travel to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in November. Trainers, students, and parents alike become extremely excited about participating in the regional CET Medal Finals and earning one of these four valued tickets to compete at the Royal. Most of the year however, many Alberta competitors tend to focus all of their efforts solely on the jumper competitions held throughout the province. We believe strongly in the development of the up and coming young riders of our sport in Alberta, and feel that the equitation lacks somewhat in our province, compared to other provinces in our country. The CET Medal, founded by Barbara Anderson of Calgary, is approaching its 25th anniversary in just 3 years. Alberta has clinched the title just 3 times in the 22 years thus far or 13.6% of the time. The finals have traditionally been dominated by riders from British Columbia who have won the coveted Medal 13 times, or 59% of the time. We at RMSJ believe that Alberta riders are better than the percentages dictate, and that our riders can come home with the CET Medal championship each year many more times than we have proven in the past. THE CHALLENGE: RMSJ is challenging the youth of Alberta and their trainers to bring home the CET Medal. Just like our country does for its potential Olympians, RMSJ is prepared to reward competitors for their efforts to be the best. Begining with the Bow Valley Classics this week, 6 CET Medal competitions are being hosted throughout the summer tournament season here at Anderson Ranch that lead up to the regional qualifiers being held in mid September. Should a competitor compete in all 6 of these competitions, RMSJ will refund all of the CET entry fees incurred to that competitor. If a competitor competes in 5 of the 6, then 75% of their fees will be reimbursed, and if 4 CET Medals are competed in, then 50% of the fees incurred will be refunded for each started competition. Work hard, practice your basics and challenge yourself........riders have done all of that! Now they are ready for the regional qualifiers in September. If a rider has competed in at least 4 of the 6 CET Medals during the year here at Anderson Ranch, and is one of the four qualifiers to earn a chance to compete in the CET Medal Finals at the Royal Winter Fair in November, everyone here at RMSJ as well as all Albertans will be cheering for the Fab Four and hoping that we can improve on our CET Finals record. Should that rider come home with the CET Medal draped around his or her neck, all of the Alberta equestrian community will be very proud, but Icing on the cake for that lucky competitor will be the presentation of a $10,000 scholarship cheque courtesy of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping. A $2,000 dollar bonus cheque will also be presented to the trainer of the lucky winner. The biggest benefit to this rider however, will not be the financial reward, but the improvement in his/her skills developed throughout the year practicing, that will carry forward a lifetime. Best of luck to all CET competitors, and we hope you participate in the Rocky Mountain Show Jumping CET Medal Challenge! Rocky Mountain Show Jumping hosts its tournaments at Anderson Ranch in Calgary’s south end, a world-class facility featuring permanent stabling for 300 horses with a main competition grass grand prix field complete with natural obstacles.
